How to increase sales using text messaging

A few years ago a technology emerged that allowed sending text messages via cell phones. Marketers missed no time to find a way of using them as a publicity tool.

In recent months this technology is no longer exclusive to large companies and you as a small entrepreneur can use it to promote your business and increase your sales.

The first step you should take to start your publicity campaign using text messages is having a provider for this service. Cell phones have a limit in the amount of people you can send bulk text messages, making it impossible to send a text message to, say, 5000 people, through your mobile.

To be able to send messages in bulk you must have a server created for this purpose. This server will allow your clients to register in your database to receive offers by sending a keyword to your subscription number.

For example, they can send the keyword TUNEGOCIO to 12345 to register and receive your offers. Not only can this server deliver text messages to thousands of people in seconds, it will also allow visitors to your web page to register in your database. The second step is to grow you subscribers list. The success of your publicity campaign will greatly depend on the number of subscribers you have. In order for your clients and prospects to want to register in your list you should offer an incentive that will give them a saving or an added value to your product or service.

For example, if your business is a restaurant, your waiters can ask the customer to register in your subscribers list to receive a discount or an appetizer, on the house. At the time of registration, the customer’s cell phone will receive a message notifying that they have been subscribed to your database, and by showing this message to the waitress, the discount or appetizer will be validated.

It is also important to add a reminder where you ask customers to register, it can be in your menus, flyers on the tables, posters on windows or in the bathrooms, and in ads.

The third step is to send strategic messages. For example, if Tuesdays are generally less crowded, you can send a text message on Monday offering a good discount to get people in the door on Tuesday. For special occasions, such as Mothers’ Day, you can send a text message three weeks in advance inviting your subscribers to call and make a reservation.

If you want to launch a new product or service, your text message can include a link to watch a video on youtube, visit your website to look at pictures or request information, or to your Facebook page to join your followers list.
