Auditions set for RENT

Elgin Summer Theatre returns with the Pulitzer Prize-winning rock musical RENT, which will run at The Hemmens Cultural Center July 18-20 and July 25-27. RENT is based on the opera La Boheme and follows a year in the life of a group of impoverished young artists and musicians struggling to survive in the shadow of HIV/AIDS in NYC’s Lower East Side. Auditions for the Elgin-produced musical are open to the public and will be held 7-10 pm on May 19, 20 and 21, at The Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way in Elgin. Those auditioning should be age 16 and over, wear comfortable clothes and shoes to dance in, and prepare a 60 second selection of music from the musical RENT or a piece in the Rock/Power Ballad genre to perform a capella. A dance sequence will be taught at the audition as well.
